DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Book 7: Thaddeus in Leaguer
1. Thaddeus learns that Soh-Nahk, the evil Eastlands Emperor, is planning an invasion of the Indas and, possibly, lands beyond with a 2,000,000-man army, while at the same time his first feral child, General Akireu, has decided to conquer neighboring Sur. Is Thaddeus justified in choosing the one Warlord and Despoiler over the other?
2. Thaddeus has decided to build his Tower at the place where he met his feral daughter—another woman’s child—without first discussing this with Marsia. As he considers he was shown the site as a sign, does he have just cause in proceeding without his Lady’s consultation?
3. Perditus effects a Daemon-binding spell on Morad and believes he has accounted for every possible contingency in its execution. How likely is this?
4. Before he loses his Sorcerous Sight, Silvestrus pens a scroll giving his future self instructions to, among other things, read this very scroll out loud to a mule? How thin an edge does he skate on with this strategy?
5. Perditus makes a point of destroying Beewicke. Is this a strategic move to provoke Thaddeus into his trap, or is this personal vendetta only?
6. What are reasons that explain how ruin came to Vexare? Are curses probable in this setting? If so, how?
7. The Lady, Mater Naturae, intervenes directly in Rolland’s life once again. Is this Deus Ex Machina initiative warranted or does it serve the story poorly?
8. Both Marsia and Thaddeus, in the end, surrender to Perditus. What are the elements that go into their decisions?
9. Akireu leaves his army in the moment of triumph to go off with a talking mule. What might be the elements and influences that have layed a part in this decision?
10. In a global war, the Westlands are helplessly outnumbered. Is there a vital fact, however, that Soh-Nahk and his Ancient Ones have forgotten concerning Westlands’ Sorcerous magic?
