Book 6: Thaddeus the Faithless
Book Club Leaders … contact Louis to participate in a special meeting to discuss the book; the concepts; and the evolution of the series. In-person gatherings are possible if you are in the Midwest and Louis is available. Otherwise, Zoom is always an option.

1. Thaddeus has allowed both his Master and his Brother Apprentice to proceed in their planning of his escape from the Imperium, knowing full well that he intends to attempt an impossible task that the odds of his failing in which are high. Is he justified in putting them in risk of their lives for him?
2. As above, with his flight from Cinoton to the Eastern Aelvae, he now places that group at great risk from the malevolent, vengeful Cinnian Emperor. Is he justified in accepting their protection knowing that they are likely to be pursued and put to the sword?
3. Nom-Sol makes it clear she will not sail over the sea with Thaddeus but, instead, sacrifice herself to give him time to make his passage. Would it have been better for Thaddeus to change to his path of flight to a land route to escape his enemies and, thereby, not only spare the Eastlands Aelvae but also gain Nom-Sol’s valuable
assistance on their trek?
4. The four Sorcerous Apprenticiatrixes decline to share their version of Prophecy with their male companions. What might their reasoning be?
5. Thaddeus has agreed to pledge to a Daemon whose purpose is to dispose of all mankind and rule the Earth, destroying the Lady. What might his moral justification be?
6. In returning the Tower of the Cin, Thaddeus is aware this will strengthen the position of the evil Cinnian Emperor and, perhaps, increase the chances of an invasion of the Westlands foreshadowing countless lives lost and destruction. What steps may have led him to make such a fateful decision?
7. Thaddeus, acting on his own whim, steals a valuable artifact from his College without permission, giving it into the hands of a People bent on the destruction of his homeland, friends, and family. Is the Council of Deeds justified in bringing him to trial?
8. The Council of Deeds compromises their position after they are bullied by Silvestrus. Should they have allowed their decision to be compromised by politics?
9. Thaddeus is not allowed to graduate with his class. Is this a justified punishment or a petty strike at the Apprentice?
10. For his crime, Thaddeus is now sentenced to at least twelve years of spying placing him at significant risk if discovered. Is this action justified?
